Teacher Guide

Explain that the students need to use the word provided, unchanged, within a phrase that completes the sentence in a way that it has the same meaning as the first sentence. The phrase they write must have between 3 and 6 words.

Lesson Plan

:

28 Advanced Reading Part 5

10mins: Introduction:

Online homework: Discuss any problems or difficulties the student may be having.

Independent reading: Ask the student about what they have read in English during the last week. If you are reading a novel together, discuss the assigned reading and any vocabulary words/ writing assignments.

Speaking part 2:

Use advanced speaking material to practice speaking part 2 together. Candidates will have a long turn and a short turn. In the long turn, they'll need to compare and contrast two photographs. In the short turn, they'll need to answer a question about their partner's photographs.

10mins: Review the proposal that was given as a homework assignment. Have students trade papers and correct each other's mistakes. Collect the assignments and make final corrections for next week.

10mins: Worksheet: 28 reading practice - part 4 - review and discuss

15mins: Worksheet: 28 reading practice - part 5 - review and discuss

10mins: Writing extension: writing part 2 - a report. Have students write their title/headings in the lesson and make a quick outline. Assign the rest for homework.

You see the following notice in your local health center:

An international Health Development Agency is collecting information about attitudes to public health campaigns in countries around the world. Please help by writing a report on attitudes where you live.

Your report should outline some of the main current health concerns in your country, describe people's attitudes to any recent campaigns aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles and recommend ways in which you think people could be persuaded to take healthy living more seriously.

Write your report in 220-260 words in an appropriate style.

Tips:

- Decide who will read the report and how formal/informal your language should be.

- Your report should include factual information followed by suggestions or recommendations.

- Give your report a title and organise your ideas into sections, each with its own heading.

- Start by outlining the purpose of your report. Use your own words rather than repeating words in the question.

- Explain the reasons for any recommendation you make.

05mins: Warm down: Goodbye, see you next time. Encourage students to do additional reading for vocabulary building outside of the lesson. News articles, short stories, and novels are all great examples.

00mins: Homework - complete the next section of the online homework
