Teacher Guide

Use simple short phrases, give plenty of examples using possessive pronouns. For example, hold a classroom object and say 'This is mine'. Pass something to one of the students and say 'That is yours'. Write 'mine' and 'yours' on the board and play a game to reinforce these words. After the students are comfortable with those words, add 'his', 'hers' and 'theirs' still using practical examples and/or pictures to demonstrate.

Avoid using possessive adjectives in the examples so as not to confuse them at this stage.

Help the students to complete the worksheet. First underline the subject in each sentence, then show the students how to match the subject to the pronoun. After they have completed the worksheet, have them read each line out loud.

Remember to use possessive pronouns in future lessons to help reinforce this new vocabulary, as they will need to revisit it multiple times to be able to learn it well.

Lesson Plan

:

15 Starters Listening Part 4

05mins - Introduction: What is your favourite day of the week? Why do you like this day? Does your favourite day change with the seasons? Do you do a special activity on this day?

05mins - Review: Days of the week and corresponding terminology: today, tomorrow, yesterday, this week, next week, last week, weekend, etc. Have each student write a sentence using each of these terms.

15mins - Pre-teach: The teacher writes a pronoun on the board, and the students must draw a picture to represent each pronoun. (I, you, he, she, it, we, they). Ask students to draw an object next to each picture. (Ex: 'she' is next to a cat.) Ask students about who the objects belong to - Whose cat is that? The cat is hers!
