Teacher Guide

Have the students draw lines to connect the times in numerical form to written form. Review the vocabulary 'half past', 'a quarter to' and 'o'clock'. Remind them that 'past' is used when the minute hand is between 1 and 30 minutes, and 'to' is used between 31 and 59 minutes.

22 - Year 4 Lesson plan

10mins: Introduction - Beginner questions 'What's your name, how old are you, where are you from, have you got any brothers or sisters? What's your favourite day of the week? What do you usually do on this day? What's one thing you like? One think you don't like? What's one thing you can do? One thing you can't do?

10mins: Review - present continuous and prepositions. Call each student to the front of the class. The student will put the ball somewhere in the room. Students must describe the action using the present continuous (e.g. he/she is putting the ball _________) followed by a prepositional phrase. (E.g. on the table, under the chair, in the bag, etc.)

10mins: Review: 'Time' The 24-hour clock. Review time vocabulary terms: a.m., p.m., o'clock, past, to/till, a quarter past, half past, a quarter till, before, after, during. Call students to the front of the class and have them practice writing the time you say on the whiteboard.

10mins - Activity: Short story - have students look at their 'schedule of a famous person' from the week before. Ask students to draw a picture and write a short story about their character. The story should be about their character's daily routine.

15mins: Worksheet: page 23 - time

05mins: Warm Down: Goodbye, see you next time + points
