Ask the students to place the phrases in the box in the table section that they think sounds natural. Explain that there will not be an even number per section. Help them practice saying these expressions out loud in some guided conversation. These are good options to be familiar with when asked "what will you do this weekend?".
The worksheet then focuses on some phrasal verbs built with the verb 'take'. Give some example for each one and check that the students understand how each one is used.
Remember to revisit phrasal verbs often in lessons. Ask your students to use one each lesson in conversation or writing exercises and introduce a handful each lesson. There are so many and they are best to be learned gradually. You could introduce a 'bonus point' every time a student spots a phrasal verb being used 'in the wild' (in reading comprehension texts for example).
10mins - Conversation: What do you consider to be the benefits of having a hobby? What types of hobbies do you have? Why do you like them? Do you think you will continue this hobby when you are an adult? If you could try a new hobby, what would you choose?
05mins - Review the Mica eLearning online homework. What topics were discussed? Was the homework easy, medium or difficult? Answer any questions the students may have.
10mins - Review: Phrasal verbs and linking expressions. Play 'Whose Line?': Write out (or use Mica flash cards) some common phrasal verbs that your students have been learning. Choose the ones that lend themselves to drama such as: break up, get out, give up, cut back, run into...etc. Give your students a scenario for them to create a scene and hand out 2 or 3 phrasal verb cards per student. Depending on their level and confidence, either have them look in advance at their cards or keep them a secret. Instruct them to act out a scene of their choice and at random times insert their phrasal verb into the dialogue. Some example scenarios: at a restaurant, at the moon landing, at a zoo, in a supermarket, at school on exam day, at a swimming race etc.
05mins- Review: Suffixes. Write the following subjects on the board: Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Ecologist, Geologist, Mathematician, Physicist. Ask the students to change each word to a person (n) and an adjective. Ex: Astronomer, Astronomical.
