Teacher Guide

Lesson Plan

:

19 First Reading Part 4

10mins - Conversation: Do you dream often? What kind of dreams do you have? Do you typically remember your dreams? If so, describe a memorable dream in details. If not, discuss the types of things other people might dream about. Do you ever daydream? What things do you think about? Why do you think we dream?

05mins - Review the online homework. What topics were discussed? Was the homework easy, medium or difficult? Answer any questions the students may have.

05mins - Review: Phrasal verbs and linking expressions. Use flashcards for reinforcement.

10mins - Discuss: Reading part 4 - this section tests your grammar and vocabulary by asking you to use different structures and words to express the same ideas. You must use two to five words, including a word in capital letters which you mustn't change.

-Part 4 sometimes focuses on expressions followed by the -ing form or to+infinitive.

-Part 4 sometimes tests past forms of modal verbs: modal + have + past participle.

*Tips:

  • Decide what kind of word the keyword is (noun, preposition, etc.)
  • Think about whether you need to make a grammatical change (from active or passive) or a vocabulary change (using a phrasal verb or a linking expression).
  • Check whether you need to change a noun to an adjective or an affirmative to a negative.

05mins - Skill Practice: Write example sentences on the whiteboard. Have students re-write these sentences, making sure the new sentence retains the same meaning.

10mins - Worksheet: 19 linking words

10mins - Test: 19 reading practice - part 4

05mins - Warm down: Goodbye, see you next time!

00mins - Homework: Complete the next section of the online homework.
