Teacher Guide

Hopefully you've introduced your students to a few phrasal verbs by now. Keep it up every lesson. There are so many to learn and it's best to do it gradually but consistently. Encourage your students to watch TV or movies in English too and see if they can spot phrasal verbs being used.

Have your students choose the option that they feel sounds right in each gap. Talk about the other options. Some of them are valid phrasal verbs but just don't fit in the context of that sentence. Discuss, demonstrate and give examples for any that they are unfamiliar with.

Have them read out their sentences and encourage them to use some of the phrasal verbs that were new to them this time in the next lesson as part of the conversation time or a writing task.

Lesson Plan

:

36 First Listening Part 1

**10mins - **Conversation: Discussion: The following animals are currently endangered: Gorillas, tigers, rhinos and polar bears. Why do you think these animals are endangered? If you could save one, which one would you save, and why?

Follow up questions:

1. Do you agree that global warming is threatening certain species?

2. Do you think governments should be required to keep the environment and animals safe?

3. Do you think zoos are ethical? Why or why not?

**05mins - **Review - Review phrasal verbs. Write a list of common phrasal verbs on the board and have students come up with example sentences for each.

10mins - Workbook: 05 phrasal verbs

**15mins - **Game: Play 'taboo' with phrasal verbs. Prep the game by having students write some phrasal verbs on small pieces of paper. Divide the students into two teams. Each student must blindly choose a phrasal verb, and describe it to their team. The team has 1 minute to guess as many phrasal verbs as possible.

15mins - Test: 36 listening practice, part 1

**05mins - **Warm down: Goodbye, see you next time.

**00mins - **Homework: Complete the next section of the online homework.
