Teacher Guide

Review phrasal verbs and go through the ones featured on this worksheet (in brackets) to make sure your students are clear about their meanings. Talk about how some phrasal verbs can be split (called "separable") and some can't ("inseparable"). You may like to have your students complete our free Phrasal Verb course on Mica eLearning before the lesson as it explains this in detail with plenty of examples.

It's useful to note that with separable phrasal verbs, if the object is a pronoun it should come in between the verb and the adverb. For example "put me off" not "put off me".

The second part of the worksheets contains 11 very cheesy jokes that contain phrasal verbs. Have the students match them up with their punchline and then laugh together about how bad these jokes are!

Lesson Plan

:

53 First Writing Part 2

10mins - Conversation: Debate: Is it ever okay to cheat? Students must choose a side of the argument, and defend it. Use the 'linking expressions' flash cards to facilitate the discussion.

05mins - Activity: Write the following 4 categories on the board: Fall, get, tell and come. Read the following list, and have students determine which box they belong in. (Fall) to pieces, flat, in love, ill, into a trap, asleep (Get) ahead, into trouble, the impression, over it, lost (Tell) the truth, a story, a lie, the time, the difference (Come) apart, to life, to the conclusion, clean, to terms with, into money

05mins - Review phrasal verbs using the phrasal verbs flash cards.

10mins - Worksheet: 22 phrasal verbs

10mins - Discuss: Writing tone. In writing part 2, students will choose one question to answer. Each question requires a different tone and writing style. Discuss the difference between an article, review and story. Who is the audience? Where would you see this type of writing? Would you write in a neutral of formal tone? Refer to the writing practice worksheet. Ask each student to write an opening sentence for each of the prompts.

15mins - Test: 53 writing practice

05mins - Warm down: Goodbye, see you next time.

00mins - Homework: Complete the next section of the online homework.
