05mins - Homework review: discuss any questions or problems.

05mins - Introduction: Look at the 'Listening requirements' on the #2 first help card. Review the requirements for the listening portion of the exam. Discuss the information with the class, answering any questions the students may have.

  • In the present simple or the past simple, use the aux. verb do/does/did to make the question: 'I like Italy' -> 'Do you like Italy?' 'She prefers Greece.' -> 'Does she prefer Greece?' 'They went to Spain.' -> 'Did they go to Spain?'
  • The verb 'to be' goes before the subject. 'They're in Madrid today.' -> 'Are they in Madrid today?'

Do we have a 6th sense? -- Have each student write own of their own 'mysteries of life' on small pieces of paper. Collect the questions and have each student blindly choose a question. Students must speak about their question for 30 seconds.

Test Tip

1) You will be given some time before the recording begins. Use that time to underline key information in the questions.

2) You will hear people talking in eight different situations. Take note of who will be talking.

3) The questions will tell you exactly who the people are that are talking and what information you should be looking for.

4) On the first listening, choose an answer. On the second listening, double check the answer.

5) If you don't know the answer, make a guess.
