Teacher Guide

Lesson Plan

:

27 First Writing Part 1

10mins - Conversation: Speaking Part 2: Use the speaking part two help card to have students make observations about what they see in the images. Encourage students to listen to instructions, study the pictures, and read the questions. Tell students to think about what they're going to say, and imagine they are describing the picture to someone who can't see them. Students should discuss what's similar and different about each picture, and focus on what the people are doing/how they might be feeling. Students should give opinions that are supported by reasons and examples.

05mins - Review the online homework. What topics were discussed? Was the homework easy, medium or difficult? Answer any questions the students may have.

05mins - Review: Phrasal verbs: Assign students a verb and challenge them to create as many phrasal verbs as possible. Have them write a definition and an example sentence for each verb they create. (Ex: Make, call, think, bring, carry)20mins - Test: 27 writing practice - part 1 - Create an outline together. Students should write the introduction paragraph in class. Have the students trade papers and make corrections. Assign the body of the essay for homework.

15mins - Test: 27 listening practice - Part 3 - Review the answers.

05mins - Warm-down, goodbye, see you next time.

00mins - Homework: Complete the next section of the online homework.

Test Tip

  1. Students will hear short extracts and need to match them to the correct speaker. The speakers will all say different things related to a similar topic.
  2. Some information will be said in the recording that matches a wrong answer. Students will need to be careful about small details in what they hear.
  3. Students should try to predict what each person might say, and make notes about how the people felt about what they're saying. Do they have positive or negative feelings?
