29 First Listening Part 2

10mins - Conversation: Speaking part 3 - Divide the class into pairs and provide them with the following prompt: I'd like you to imagine that a sports club wants to advertise to encourage more people to use its facilities. Talk to each other about why these types of advertising would encourage more people to use the club.

  • Write the following information on the whiteboard as an aide: Large ad in streets, ads on local radio, internet ads, ads in the local press, ads on local TV
  • Allow each group two minutes to discuss.
  • Now, allow students one minute to decide which method would be the most effective.

05mins - Review the online homework. What topics were discussed? Was the homework easy, medium or difficult? Answer any questions the students may have.

15mins - Worksheet: 29 listening practice - part 2 - Review the answers.

**Please correct the writing homework during the listening practice.

15mins - Test: 29 reading practice - part 4 - Review the answers.

10mins - Activity: writing review - review any corrections that were made to the conclusion paragraphs. For homework, students should re-write their essays without errors.

05mins - Warm-down, goodbye, see you next time.

00mins - Homework: Complete the next section of the online homework.

Test Tip

1) Use the time before the recording starts to read the questions and underline key information.

2) Look at the words on either side of the gap and predict what information you might hear.

  1. Right down the actual words you hear, don't waste time trying to rephrase things.

4) Don't write extra information. You will only need one, two, or three words at most.

5) Don't panic if you miss a word, skip over it and immediately prepare yourself to hear the next answer.

6) If you didn't hear something on the first listening, try again in the second listening. If all else fails, make an educated guess.
