Teacher Guide

Explain that the students need to use the word provided, unchanged, within a phrase that completes the sentence in a way that it has the same meaning as the first sentence. The phrase they write must have between 2 and 5 words. Review changing between active and passive voice, direct and indirect speech and the form of the present perfect tense.

Lesson Plan

:

29 First Listening Part 2

10mins - Conversation: Speaking part 3 - Divide the class into pairs and provide them with the following prompt: I'd like you to imagine that a sports club wants to advertise to encourage more people to use its facilities. Talk to each other about why these types of advertising would encourage more people to use the club.

  • Write the following information on the whiteboard as an aide: Large ad in streets, ads on local radio, internet ads, ads in the local press, ads on local TV
  • Allow each group two minutes to discuss.
  • Now, allow students one minute to decide which method would be the most effective.

05mins - Review the online homework. What topics were discussed? Was the homework easy, medium or difficult? Answer any questions the students may have.

15mins - Worksheet: 29 listening practice - part 2 - Review the answers.

**Please correct the writing homework during the listening practice.

15mins - Test: 29 reading practice - part 4 - Review the answers.

10mins - Activity: writing review - review any corrections that were made to the conclusion paragraphs. For homework, students should re-write their essays without errors.

05mins - Warm-down, goodbye, see you next time.

00mins - Homework: Complete the next section of the online homework.

Test Tip

1) Think about the voice - can you switch between active and passive voice?

2) Look at the words directly before and after the gap. If a past participle follows the gap, you know you'll need the auxiliary verb 'have/had' in your response.

3) Do not use fewer than two or more than five words.

4) Do not modify the key word in any way.
