Teacher Guide

In this exercise, the students need to think of the word that fits in each gap. Review phrasal verbs, such as 'carry out' etc. Have them read the completed text out loud and ask them if any parts don't sound natural to them - then explain those parts and give further examples.

Lesson Plan

:

30 First Listening Part 4

10mins - Conversation: Discuss role models - what makes a person a good role model? Who is an important person to them? Why? Have each student prepare a 1-minute speech about a role model in their life, then present them to the class.

15mins - Skill practice: Discuss - Listening for opinion, attitude, gist, main idea, specific information. Give some short speeches stating various opinions on a topic and have them summarise your points afterward. Suitable topics could be: the importance of travel for young people, should plastic bags be banned, global warming, social media, bullying.

15mins - Worksheet: 30 Listening practice - part 4 - review the answers.

15mins - Worksheet: 30 Reading practice - part 2 - review the answers.

05mins - Warm down: encourage them to try and watch Youtube videos in English between lessons. (TedEd, crash course, etc)

00mins - Homework: Complete the next section of the online homework.

Test Tip

1) Read through the text to get a sense of what it's about.

2) Read THROUGH the gap. This means continue reading until you've arrived to a full stop at the end of a sentence. This will help you find the context.

3) Think about what type of word is needed in the blank space. What part of speech is missing?

4) Double check to see if the word should be single, plural, past, present, etc.

5) Spelling counts!

6) Do not leave any blank spaces. If you don't know the right answer, guess.
