Discuss possible changes to root words and how they are usually used. Have the students modify the words provided to fill the gaps and discuss each case together.

Lesson Plan

:

31 First Reading Part 4

**10mins - **Conversation: Discuss a typical teenager's weekly routine in the teacher's home country compared to Italy. Ask their opinion about which is more interesting, more fun, more useful, more entertaining, safer, more expensive, healthier etc.

**05mins - **skill practice: Discuss using language functions, such as evaluating, expressing opinions, hypothesising, justifying, persuading. Give examples.

10mins - Review: Reading and Use of English Part 5 evaluates a candidate's ability to understand the writers meaning of a text including expression of opinion, attitude, purpose, main idea, tone and implication.

  • There are 6 multiple choice questions, which follow the order of the text.
  • Ask students to read the text for worksheet 31 reading practice, and then write down what they think the writer's attitude and main opinions are. Encourage them to write sentences utilising the language functions discussed earlier in the lesson.
  • Warn students about 'word-spotting' or assuming an answer is correct because it contains a word that also appears in the text.

15mins - Worksheet: 31 reading practice - part 4 - review the answers.

**15mins - **Test: 31 reading practice - part 3 - review the answers. Discuss examples for each type of writing. Ask the student about what tone should be used for each one, and who the reader might be. Discuss effective planning for each type of writing. What would you want to include?

**05mins - **Warm-down, goodbye, see you next time.

**00mins - **Homework: Complete the next section of the online homework.
