20mins: Writing practice: Speed writing.

Write the following prompt on the board. Give students 5 minutes to 'plan' their article and 15 minutes to complete their article.

Write 140-190 words in an appropriate style.

Are you an only child or do you have brothers and sisters?

Are you the oldest, the youngest or a middle child?

What are the advantages of being in your place in the family? What are the disadvantages?

Test Tip

  1. Students will hear short extracts and need to match them to the correct speaker. The speakers will all say different things related to a similar topic.
  2. Some information will be said in the recording that matches a wrong answer. Students will need to be careful about small details in what they hear.
  3. Students should try to predict what each person might say, and make notes about how the people felt about what they're saying. Do they have positive or negative feelings?
