Teacher Guide

Give some simple examples that highlight the use of comparatives and superlatives. For example: "This school bag is big but this school bag is bigger than the first one. Wow, that school bag is the biggest in this classroom!". Have the students think of some more examples and underline the components that make up each form: the -er ending and 'than' for comparatives; 'the' and the -est ending for superlatives.

Use the Mica Education 'Comparatives and Superlatives' slideshow to review the spelling rules for each form. There's a useful table and some examples.

The students should then be able to complete the worksheet. Check the spelling, especially of the ones that require a doubled consonant (such as big).

As an extension, have students pick 2 or 3 words from the list and come up with an example sentence using them.
