Teacher Guide

Now that your students have learned about the comparative and superlative forms, practised their spelling and using them in complete sentences (in the previous 2 lessons), they are ready to get more confident at using them in everyday conversation. This worksheet helps practice that skill.

Have the spelling tables from the Mica Education Comparatives and Superlatives slideshow up as a reference guide or do a quick review of the spelling rules before starting.

Have the students complete the worksheet with their own ideas first and then treat each question as a conversation starter and encourage all students to give their opinion. Most have multiple answers so make sure nobody is arguing. Help students to use full sentences when giving their opinion and make sure to give plenty of positive feedback.

Ask each student to come up with their own question for number 9 (with your help) and then discuss it as a group. Prompt them with some useful comparatives or superlatives if they have difficulty thinking of their own question.

Lesson Plan

:

21 Flyers Writing Part 2

10mins - Introduction: Introduce the following linking expressions: First, next, then, after, finally. Beginning with the teacher, each person says one word at a time to further the story. Practice for correct verb tenses and linking expressions.

05mins - Review the online homework. What topics were discussed? Was the homework easy, medium or difficult? Answer any questions the students may have.

15mins - Review: Comparatives (adj. + ER, more) and Superlatives (adj. + ER, most) - Have students use comparatives and superlatives to write 5 sentences. Brainstorm a list of categories together: What's the best ice cream flavour? Who is the best character in Harry Potter? Where is the best place to visit the sea in Italy?

10mins - Worksheet: 21 comparatives and superlatives

15mins - Test: 21 writing practice - part 2 - review the answers.

05mins - Warm down: goodbye see you next time

00mins - Homework: complete the next section of the online homework.
