Teacher Guide

Lesson Plan

:

23 Flyers Reading Part 4

10mins - Introduction: Your class will be going on a field trip for the spring holiday. Brainstorm possible places that the class could visit, and discuss why you think each place would be good or bad. Use modal verbs to make suggestions and talk about possibilities.

05mins - Review the online homework. What topics were discussed? Was the homework easy, medium or difficult? Answer any questions the students may have.

05mins - Review: Modal Verbs: can & could - words used to make a request. Can expresses ability, a request which expects the answer 'yes'. Could has a similar meaning, with less certainty that the answer will be 'yes'. Could is a more polite form of the request. When talking about the past, we use 'could' instead of 'can'. Negative form: could not, can not.

Must - used to express obligation or requirement

Should/shouldn't - used to express suggestions and recommendations

Might - used to express possibility

Will - used to express absolute certainty/talk about the future

10mins - Activity: Problem-solving: Students must write a problem on a piece of paper. ExP: My dog ate my homework. The students will trade papers, and try to give advice for each problem using modal verbs. ExS: You should do the homework again!

10mins - Worksheet: page 24 - modals

15mins - Test: 23 reading practice - part 4

05mins - Warm down: goodbye see you next time

00mins - Homework: complete the next section of the online homework.
