Teacher Guide

This is useful for vocabulary building, especially words about jobs and food. Take the time to illustrate and discuss each of the options below, not just the ones that match the questions. Do your students know these jobs and foods? When speaking about jobs, ask 'what do they do?' 'what do they wear?' 'what do they use?'. When speaking about food, ask 'when do we eat this usually' 'is it sweet or salty?' 'what does it look like?'.

Help them with the spelling and encourage them to read the questions and answers out loud when they've finished. Remind them that the article 'a' becomes 'an' if the next words starts with a vowel.

Show them that some questions refer to a plural thing, for example '...these people...', so the answer should be a plural thing. Some questions refer to a singular thing 'this...' so the answer should be a singular thing.

Lesson Plan

:

29 Flyers Reading Part 1

10mins: Introduction: Speaking practice - Show (using speaking help cards) or draw a series of four pictures where the action of the people is changing from frame to frame. Have the students describe what they are seeing in the images, focusing on the correct use of present continuous, colours, nouns and prepositions.

05mins - Review the online homework. What topics were discussed? Was the homework easy, medium or difficult? Answer any questions the students may have.

15mins - Activity: Introduce a topic, such as vegetables. Have the students think up as many ways to describe the topic as possible. Ex: you eat them, you can cook them, broccoli is an example of a vegetable, they are often green. Write some phrases on the board that may be useful in describing objects, such as: 'you can....with this/these.''It's/they're made of...' 'It's/They're often/very (adj)' 'They're like/They look like...' 'you find this in/at...'. Provide another topic, and ask students to create descriptions with the phrases on the board. Now ask students to try to guess what you are describing.

15mins - Worksheet: 29 reading practice - part 1 - Review the answers.

10mins - Test: 29 writing practice - part 2 - Review the answers.

05mins - Warm down: goodbye see you next time

00mins - Homework: complete the next section of the online homework.

Test Tip

1) Tell students to read all the options before they start to answer the questions, so that they're aware of the possible choices.

2) Students should read the whole sentence and copy their answers carefully.
