Teacher Guide

As you come to the end of the track, we encourage you to include creative projects in lessons. This really rewards students for the hard work of building a grammar and vocabulary base in a new language. Connecting the skills they've practiced to real world applications helps them to stay motivated to keep learning.

In this project, the students are guided towards writing their own song/rap lyrics. Inspire them by playing some example beats for them to sing/rap over when they've finished.

To write the lyrics, first have the students choose any words they know in English that can be rhymed with easily. Then they should write three words that rhyme with each word. For example: school - pool, cool, fool.

Then they can write sentences that rhyme, using the examples they chose. More advanced students may be able to connect all sentences into a theme. Don't put too much pressure on it being really meaningful lyrics. Let them have fun with it and find their own style. You'll likely need to help them construct their sentences.

If possible, record them performing over a sample beat. Otherwise have them perform it live. Celebrate their creativity and achievement!

Lesson Plan

Encourage the student(s) to use each expression. Cross them out after they have been used.

05mins - Review the online homework. What topics were discussed? Was the homework easy, medium or difficult? Answer any questions the students may have.

10mins - Activity: Give the students the worksheet 25, "the broken hand" and get them to read it without answering it. When they have finished, take the worksheet away and ask them to write down the words that may fit in the missing spots. Compare the lists with the entire class. Discuss. Use example sentences.
