Have the students listen to the audio file twice and write the answers to the questions, paying attention to spelling.
05mins - Conversation: Where did you go for your summer holiday? Describe one memorable event. Imagine you are going on a holiday to a different planet. Describe what types of things you might see or do.
10mins - Revision: Simple Past Catch. Split the class into two teams. Each team must brainstorm a list of verbs and change them to the simple past. Team 1 will "throw" a verb in the simple present to team 2, who must correctly change the verb to the simple past to earn a point. If team 2 answers incorrectly, team 1 can steal the point if they know the correct answer.
10mins - Activity: Writing prompt: "Yesterday while I was at the park, I saw a dog with two heads!" Have the students write one sentence continuing the story. Students can provide information such as "what was the dog wearing?" or "what else was in the park?" Practice using the verb in the simple past.
20mins - Worksheet: 01 Simple Past - Complete the sentences using an appropriate verb in the simple past form.
15mins - Test: 01 listening
05mins - Warm down: Goodbye, see you next time.
**00mins - "**Dear Diary..." have each student write a paragraph as if it were an excerpt from their diary. Students can write about something that happened at school or a fun experience they had on the weekend. Students should practice writing verbs in the simple past.
1) Read each question and underline key information.
2) Students will hear the information from all three pictures, but only one is correct.
3) On the first listening choose an answer, on the second, check.
4) When a question begins with why, listen carefully for because.
5) If you don't know the answer, guess!
