Teacher Guide

Have the students read the message exchange between the two friends, and ask them to choose what words feel natural to fill the gaps. If they have trouble, revise forming questions and making suggestions.

Lesson Plan

:

09 Key Reading Part 5

10mins - Introduction: One-word story - Beginning with the teacher, each person says one word at a time to further the story. Practice for correct verb tenses and linking expressions.

05mins - Review the online homework. What topics were discussed? Was the homework easy, medium or difficult? Answer any questions the students may have.

15mins: Pre-teach: Past participle - the third form of the verb. Write a list of 'past participle' verbs on the whiteboard. Then, say a verb in the present form. Students must try to guess which 'past participle' verb it is. Award points for correct answers.

10mins - Worksheet: 09 past participle (finish for homework)

15mins - Practice Test: 09 reading practice - part 5

05mins - Warm down: what will you do this weekend?

00mins - Homework: Complete the next section of the online homework

Test Tip

1) Only use one word in the gap.

2) Consider whether a pronoun, determiner, auxiliary verb, question word or preposition can fit into the space.

3) Do not use the first word that comes to mind. Remember to consider multiple options before choosing an answer.

4) Once all the gaps are completed, re-read the text to see if it makes sense.
