Explain that this exercise involves filling the gaps in a simple exchange between friends. Do the example number 0 together and then have them try the rest on their own. The words in the box below can be used to help them consider what type of word needs to go in each gap, although some students will prefer to gain a natural feel for it (most easily taught through examples) rather than analysing the parts of speech - base your approach on your students' preferred learning style.

1) Only use one word in the gap.
2) Consider whether a pronoun, determiner, auxiliary verb, question word or preposition can fit into the space.
3) Do not use the first word that comes to mind. Remember to consider multiple options before choosing an answer.
4) Once all the gaps are completed, re-read the text to see if it makes sense.
