Teacher Guide

Read the paragraphs out loud together and discuss them. Remind students that different words can be used but have the same meaning. (E.g. getting better / improving). Are there any unfamiliar words or phrases?

Lesson Plan

:

25 Key Reading Part 1

10mins - Introduction: Have the student(s) tell a story using the story cubes for inspiration. Write the following expressions on the white-board: before, when, then, while, after, it wasn't until, finally, during, immediately, first of all, whenever, as soon as. Encourage the student(s) to use each expression. Cross them out after they have been used.

05mins - Review the online homework. What topics were discussed? Was the homework easy, medium or difficult? Answer any questions the students may have.

10mins - Activity: Give the students the worksheet 25, "the broken hand" and get them to read it without answering it. When they have finished, take the worksheet away and ask them to write down the words that may fit in the missing spots. Compare the lists with the entire class. Discuss. Use example sentences.

15mins - Test: 25 reading practice - part 1

15mins - Test: 25 reading practice - part 2

05mins - Warm down: what will you do this weekend?

00mins - Homework: Complete the next section of the online homework.

Test Tip

1) Read each of the three texts, and underline their key requirements.

2) Compare the question with the text options, and when the student has found the answer, be sure that all of the information completely matches the text.

3) Encourage students to prove that the answer cannot be found in another text option.

4) Beware of 'word-spotting' which is using one or two identical words to form a false match. Instead, focus on the meaning of the whole text.
