Teacher Guide

Have the students read the texts and answer the comprehension questions. Discuss the information and ask follow up questions about the people described.

Lesson Plan

:

27 Key Reading Part 2

15mins - Introduction: Speaking part 1 - Ask each student their name, surname and to spell something. Ask about their origin and education. Where are you from? What's the name of your school? What is your favourite subject to study? Ask each student one question about their daily lives, such as: What do you usually do in the evening? What time do you usually go to bed? How much homework do you usually do? What do you like to do in your free time? Tell me something about a television programme you like.

10mins - Activity: Guess the item - Write the first letter of each word on the board, and have students guess what each word is based on their description. Ex: This is by the sea and you can lie here in the sun: the beach. You sleep in a tent when you do this activity: camping. You play this sport with a racket and ball: tennis. This place has grass and trees and people go there to enjoy being outside: park.

15mins - Worksheet: 27 reading practice - part 2- Review the answers.

15mins - Practice Test: 27 reading practice - part 3 - Review the answers.

05mins - Warm down: what will you do this weekend?

00mins - Homework: complete the next section of the online homework.

Test Tip

1) Read each of the three texts, and underline their key requirements.

2) Compare the question with the text options, and when the student has found the answer, be sure that all of the information completely matches the text.

3) Encourage students to prove that the answer cannot be found in another text option.

4) Beware of 'word-spotting' which is using one or two identical words to form a false match. Instead, focus on the meaning of the whole text.
