Teacher Guide

Have the students read the message exchange between the two friends, and ask them to choose what words feel natural to fill the gaps. If they have trouble, revise forming questions and making suggestions.

Lesson Plan

:

30 Key Reading Part 1

10mins - Introduction: Speaking part 1 - Review the questions words: Who, what, where, when and why? Have the students think of questions that they might be asked during speaking part 1. What type of information are they looking for?

15mins - Activity: Split the class into two teams. Provide them with the following words: for, at, was, were, our, the, a, with, by, and to. Ask the students to write 10 sentences - 5 using the words correctly and 5 using them incorrectly. Then, have the teams trade papers. They must decide which sentences are correct and which are incorrect.

15mins - Test: 30 writing practice - part 2 - Review the answers.

15mins - Test: 30 reading practice - part 1 - Review the answers.

05mins - Warm down: what will you do this weekend?

00mins - Homework: complete the next section of the online homework.

Test Tip

1) Only use one word in the gap.

2) Consider whether a pronoun, determiner, auxiliary verb, question word or preposition can fit into the space.

3) Do not use the first word that comes to mind. Remember to consider multiple options before choosing an answer.

4) Once all the gaps are completed, re-read the text to see if it makes sense.
