To help build your students' vocabularies, practice writing or saying a definition of a noun and get them to guess what it is. When they are more confident you can make it a game where they have to think of an object or a place and try to describe it so others can guess what it is. Review some simple adjectives and verbs used for everyday life.
Teach students the concept of 'you' in relation to general reference (e.g you can stand and wash your body under this.)
Tell students that in this exam part there are two distractors and one example. Explain that they must write the word exactly as its written on the picture - spelling is important.
10mins - Introduction: What did you do last weekend? Do you often do the same activities on the weekends? Do you prefer to see your friends or spend time with your family? (Practice the verb in the simple past.)
05mins - Review homework. Discuss any questions or problems.
10mins - Activity: Activity: Excuses (present continuous review) Split the class into two teams. One team asks a question using "Why can't you (infinitive)." The other team must respond with an excuse. "I can't (infinitive) because I'm (present continuous). Continue alternating between teams until there is a repeat. The team who repeats is eliminated, and the remaining team is the winner!
E.g. 'Why can't you do your homework?'
'I can't do my homework because I'm watching T.V.'
10mins - Simple Past: Review - irregular verb spelling test - take, read, laugh, try, buy, think, say, make, find, eat, go, be - ask students to write the correct spelling for each verb in the PAST.
10mins - Worksheet: 08 present + past - finish for homework
15mins - Test: 08 reading practice - part 1
05mins - Warm down: goodbye see you next time, points
