Lesson Plan

:

21 PET Reading Part 4

10mins - Conversation: have a debate - in groups students debate about a topic chosen by the class - choose who won the debate and explain why. (single-gender schools, censored internet, ban a sport, ban smoking, lower drinking age, allow prisoners to vote etc.)

05mins - Review the online homework. What topics were discussed? Was the homework easy, medium or difficult? Answer any questions the students may have.

10mins - Review: linking expressions: Because, as, so, since, therefore, such, enough, too, despite, although. Discuss: definitely, probably, perhaps, likely, will, might, chance, won’t. Use linking expressions + adverbs of certainty to make predictions about the next year, 5 years from now and 10 years from now.

05mins - Review: Passive speaking - Correct tense of 'to be' + past participle. We use the passive when:

  • We don't know who did something. Ex: My phone was stolen.
  • The action is more important than who did it. Ex: The school was built in 1889.
  • It is obvious who or what did something. Ex: Justin Bieber is known for his music.

10mins - Worksheet: 21 passive speaking

15mins - Practice: 21 reading practice - part 4 - review the answers

05mins - Warm down: what will you do next week? This weekend?
