Talk through these useful tips for this exercise:
05mins - Conversation: What is one exciting you have done in your life? How was this different from other experiences you have had? Do you hope to do it again someday?
05mins - Discuss the online homework. Ask students about any problems they're having.
10mins - Review: past perfect (had + past participle) We use past perfect to describe an action completed in the past before something else happened. Ex: I walked to school before it had started raining. Tell the students a story about a horrible dinner you went to. Describe a list of things that happened at this dinner, using the past perfect. (Ex: I arrived late, so my friends had already been seated at the table. They had ordered when they arrived, so my food came much later than theirs. I told a story that everyone had heard before, and I felt so embarrassed after! Etc...) When the story is finished, ask the students what happened at your horrible dinner! Have them remember each event while you make a list on the board.

1) Quickly read the main text and decide what each paragraph is about.
2) Check that the answer option fits grammatically in the space, looking at the words before and after the gap to infer context.
3) Decide if the first word in the sentence options is a contrasting or connecting word, and then make sure it agrees with the information in the text before the gap. If the first word is a pronoun, identify the noun in the text that it's referring to.
4) Use process of elimination to narrow down the possible answers.
5) Once the task is finished, re-read the text to check for clarity.
