Teacher Guide

Remind the students to use the past tense form of verbs. Explain that it is important to have a beginning, middle and end and they must use the prompt provided. Review pronouns and show them to pay attention to the names and/or pronouns used in the prompt.

Lesson Plan

:

12 PET Writing Part 2

05mins - Conversation: What do you consider a 'healthy lifestyle' to be? Do you consider yourself to live a 'healthy lifestyle?' What might this include? Is it fun to be healthy? What do you consider to be 'unhealthy'?

05mins - Review the online homework. What topics were discussed? Was the homework easy, medium or difficult? Answer any questions the students may have.

10mins - Review: Relative clauses - A phrase that begins with a relative pronoun and provides further information about someone, something or somewhere. Have the students create a 'false' piece of information about each classmate, using a relative clause. Ex: Eugene, the man who ate 1,000 bananas, will participate in the banana eating competition this year.

10mins - Pre-teach: Gerunds and infinitives are nouns that look like verbs. (verb + ing; to + verb) Both can be an object of the sentence or the subject of a verb, but only a gerund can be the object of a preposition. (Ex: I can improve my English by studying often. Gerunds are used to express actions that are real, concrete and completed. (Ex: The baby stopped crying.) Infinitives are used to express actions that are unreal, abstract, or may occur in the future. (Ex: I wanted to become an actress.)

10mins - Worksheet: 12 infinitive and ing

15mins - Test: 12 writing practice - part 2

05mins - Warm down: what will you do next week? This weekend?

00mins - Homework: Complete the next section of the online homework.

Test Tip

Students must choose between writing an article or a story. They must write around 100 words.

Article:

1) Plan the information you're going to write in your article by making an outline.

2) You'll need to give your own opinion about something.

3) Use your own words instead of just repeating the words in the article.

4) For each point you make, try providing one or two examples to back it up.

5) Talk about your own personal experience when writing the article.

For the story:

1) Students MUST begin the story with the opening sentence provided and continue with a clear link.

2) When writing the story, students should pay close attention to any names or pronouns used in the title or opening sentence.

-E.g. if the story begins in the third person, continue in that way.
