Lesson Plan

:

20 PET Reading Part 5

10mins - Conversation: What is one thing about yourself that makes you feel confident? One thing that makes you feel insecure? Do you think it's important to feel self-confident? How can high or low self-esteem affect someone's life? What things make you feel afraid or delighted? Introduce and discuss: Amazed, annoyed, depressed, frightened, worried, excited, jealous, proud, relaxed, uncertain, confused, elated.

05mins - Review the online homework. What topics were discussed? Was the homework easy, medium or difficult? Answer any questions the students may have.10mins - Review: linking expressions: Because, as, so, since, therefore, such, enough, too, despite, although. Discuss: definitely, probably, perhaps, likely, will, might, chance, won’t. Use linking expressions + adverbs of certainty to make predictions about the next year.

05mins - Pre-teach: Passive speaking - Correct tense of 'to be' + past participle. We use the passive when:

  • We don't know who did something. Ex: My phone was stolen.
  • The action is more important than who did it. Ex: The school was built in 1889.
  • It is obvious who or what did something. Ex: Justin Bieber is known for his music.

10mins - Worksheet: 20 passive speaking

15mins - Test: 20 reading practice - part 5. Review the answers.

05mins - Warm down: what will you do next weekend?

00mins - Homework: Complete the next section of the online homework.

Test Tip

  3. After choosing the answer, look at the other three options and decide why they are incorrect.
  4. Once all gaps are completed, read the entire text to ensure it makes sense.
