Lesson Plan

:

02 Proficiency Writing Part 1

10mins - Introduction: Conversation - Social Security/Benefits. Discuss the social security system in Italy. Encourage the student to speak about their own opinion on this system, whether it works, what the positives are, any flaws that may exist, possible ways to improve it's functionality, etc. Illicit comparisons to similar systems in other countries.

05mins - Revision: Book work - Discuss the chapters of the book that were set for homework at the end of the previous lesson.

05mins - Comprehension: Answer the comprehension questions that accompany the newly read chapters of the book.

05mins - Mini Task: Set a five minute timer. The student is to research, discuss and present a poem by one of their favourite writers. They are to speak about the elements they like and discuss other work by the same writer.

10mins - Test: 02 writing practice

20mins - Creative Task: The student is to write a poem of at least 3 stanzas in the style of their choosing. They should be encouraged to think about their favourite poets and distinctive stylistic aspects of the work of their favourite writers.

They are completely free to choose whether the subject of the poem is personal, factual, abstract, based on nature or a landscape they may have seen, etc.

5mins - Warm down: I will set the student chapters of the book to read for homework whilst contemplating any new themes and/or characters that may have appeared.
