10mins - Introduction: Conversation - Supermarkets. Discuss the effect that a boom in large chain food stores has had on the population's general consumption habits. Ask the student whether he/she thinks it is a positive or negative thing to be able to have such a wide array of products at our fingertips. Encourage the student to speak about whether he/she is mindful of where food comes from and how it gets from farm/field/factory to our kitchens. Ask the student if they think that small, independent grocers, delis, butchers, bakers etc are still thriving and if not how do they feel about that.

15mins - Creative Task: The student is to compose a letter addressed to a member of their local council with the intention of bringing about a positive change in their neighbourhood. Some subjects could be litter, streetlights, paving, parks, community spaces.
Ensure the student uses the highest level of vocabulary they possibly can, strong linking expressions, persuasive language, and the correct tone.
