10mins - Introduction: Conversation - Voting. Discuss whether or not voting should be mandatory, whether the voting age should be lowered, raised or kept the same. Discuss any motives that individuals may have for abstaining from voting.

05mins - Mini Task: Persuasive Speech. Give the student 2 minutes to prepare a small persuasive speech designed to put across an unpopular opinion. Allow the student 1 minute 30 seconds to speak. There must be clear points and justification for the points in the speech. Review the speech for the last part of the task, give positive points and areas to improve on. Examples: raising taxes, minimum wage decrease, military conscription, compulsory work in high school, abolishing recycling.

15mins - Creative Task: Political Speech. The student is to write a politically motivated speech in the role of prime minister/president of a country of their choosing. The speech is to address a national crisis of their choosing and it's purpose is to empower and reassure the general public as well as reaffirming power and order. Look at some notable examples such as "winds of change", "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself", "tear down this wall", "the few".
05mins - Warm down: I will set the student chapters of the book to read for homework whilst contemplating any new themes and/or characters that may have appeared.
1) Think about the voice - can you switch between active and passive voice?
2) Look at the words directly before and after the gap. If a past participle follows the gap, you know you'll need the auxiliary verb 'have/had' in your response.
3) Do not use fewer than three or more than eight words.
4) Do not modify the key word in any way.
5) Contractions count as two words.
6) Keep in mind comparative forms, phrasal verbs, colloquial phrases and inverted structures.
