Teacher Guide

Lesson Plan

:

24 Proficiency Listening Part 2

15mins - Introduction: Conversation - Show the student the following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5JdbuBe6SY

Discuss the video with the student. Ask for their thoughts and impressions.

10mins - Book work. Discuss the chapters of the book that were set for homework. Instruct the student to give descriptions of the characters and themes that they have encountered in their reading and have an in depth discussion about the book.

15mins - Listening Part 2

15mins - Creative Task: The student is to finish writing their commencement speech. If there is time, review and help the student make any necessary corrections.

05mins - Warm down: I will set the student chapters of the book to read for homework whilst contemplating any new themes and/or characters that may appear.

Test Tip

1) Think about the voice - can you switch between active and passive voice?

2) Look at the words directly before and after the gap. If a past participle follows the gap, you know you'll need the auxiliary verb 'have/had' in your response.

3) Do not use fewer than three or more than eight words.

4) Do not modify the key word in any way.

5) Contractions count as two words.

6) Keep in mind comparative forms, phrasal verbs, colloquial phrases and inverted structures.
