Teacher Guide

Test Tip

1) This task involves an individual turn, an opportunity to comment after your partner has spoken and a more general discussion relating to the topic.

2) The candidates will be given a card with a question and some talking points for assistance. Candidate A will be given two minutes to respond to the question. After, the interlocutor will ask both candidates a follow-up question, addressing candidate B first. Then, the question will be opened up for both candidates to participate in a short conversation.

This process will then be repeated in reverse, with Candidate B being given a question card, and Candidate A responding to the follow-up question first.

Finally, the interlocutor will ask some further questions relating to the topic and leading to a discussion on the general theme 'Part 3' has been centred around.

3) Classic conversational etiquette should be observed by both candidates during this exam part. Remind students to engage their partners, disagree politely, interject when necessary and utilise a wide-range of high-level vocabulary words, fixed phrases and colloquial language when suitable.

4) Students should practice the 'flow' of this task, following cues from the script read by their teacher. This will help students feel more comfortable with the format.
