Help the students to answer each question by identifying the animal then counting how many there are in the picture and writing the number and animal word. Then they can colour the picture. Help them to write the correct form of the animal word (singular or plural). Have them repeat the sentences out loud.
10mins: Introduction - Beginner questions: What's your name, age, and where are you from? Have you got any brothers or sisters?
10mins: Review emotions - draw different faces on the whiteboard and ask students to say + spell them. Ask each student: How are you? Help them respond in complete sentences. (e.g. I am happy)
10mins: Pre-teach: 'There is' and 'there are'. Demonstrate 'there is' and 'there are' using students or coloured pens. Emphasise that there is = 1, and there are = 2,3, or more.
15mins: Worksheet: 11 animals - help students write the correct number and animal. Then, review with the class, reading out loud and counting together.
10mins: Activity: How many are there? The teacher will go first as an example. Hold a number of coloured pens behind your back. Ask the question "how many pens are there?" Students can then guess, using complete sentences. (There are three pens, there is one pen, etc.) When a student guesses correctly, it becomes their turn. Continue until every student has had a chance.
05mins: Warm Down: Goodbye + points. Pack up supplies, help students prepare to leave and straighten out the classroom.
