Teacher Guide

Have the students read the words out loud, act them out together, then connect them to the correct picture. While the colour the pictures, talk to them (review and repeat).

17 - Year 1 Lesson plan

10mins: Introduction - Beginner questions: What's your name, age, and where are you from? Have you got any brothers or sisters?

10mins: Review: 'How many are there?' The teacher will put a certain number of (books, pens, pencils, rubbers, etc) on a desk, then ask students 'How many _______ are there?' Students will respond 'There are (number) (object)'. Change the object/number each round.

10mins: Pre-teach - simple present. 'Listen and repeat' have students listen, repeat and act out verbs that the teacher introduces. Use 'swim, drink, write, read and sleep'.

10mins: Activity: Play 'verb train'. Have the students stand in a line behind the teacher. The teacher will begin with 'walk, walk, walk, walk,' and the students must walk behind the teacher in a train around the room. Then, the teacher says 'stop' and changes the verb. Verbs can include anything from run, dance, jump, smile and sing.

15mins: Worksheet: 17 simple present

05mins: Warm Down: Goodbye + points. Pack up supplies, help students prepare to leave and straighten out the classroom.
