Teacher Guide

Review action words with the students by acting them out, pointing to the pictures and repeating them out loud. Help them to complete the sentences, which connect verbs with 'I like/ I don't like' and adjectives. While they are colouring, ask them questions in the form 'Do you like to swim/dance/sing...?' etc.

Lesson Plan

:

10 - Year 3 Lesson plan

10mins: Introduction - Beginner questions: What's your name, age, and where are you from? Have you got any brothers or sisters? Ask questions to each student in a circle. When a student has answered the question, they must ask the next person in the circle the same question.

Choose a student to stand up, and ask the other students: What's his/her name? Where is he/she from? Where is he/she from? Repeat this process until every student has had a turn.

10mins: Review: Review 'today is', 'yesterday was' and 'tomorrow will be.' Ask students to spell each day as you write them on the whiteboard. Ask some questions to the class such as 'what day is before Monday, what day is after Thursday, etc.'

05mins: Review: Verbs - 'Listen and repeat' do an action and say what verb it is, then point to a student. The student should say and do the action, then point to another student. After every student has repeated, move on to the next verb.

10mins: Pre-teach: 'can' and 'like'. Ask students to give examples of one thing they can do, and one thing they can't (using verbs). Do the same with like and don't like (using verbs in the infinitive form).

10mins: Worksheet: 09 action phrases - finish for homework

10mins: Activity: Verb dance - make a verb dance together. Each student chooses one verb and decides how many times the verb must be done. They should write their dance step on a piece of paper. (E.g. First we jump three times.) Then, put all the instructions together and do the dance! For more advanced classes, encourage students to add adverbs such as fast, slow, etc.

05mins: Warm Down: Goodbye + points
