Teacher Guide

After teaching the vocabulary 'o'clock', 'Half-past' and 'A quarter past', have the students draw the watch hands or the digits to match the written description, and vice versa.

20 - Year 4 Lesson plan

10mins: Introduction - Beginner questions 'What's your name, how old are you, where are you from, have you got any brothers or sisters? What's your favourite day of the week? What do you usually do on this day? What's one thing you like? One think you don't like? What's one thing you can do? One thing you can't do?

10mins: Review - present continuous and prepositions. Call each student to the front of the class. The student will put the ball somewhere in the room. Students must describe the action using the present continuous (e.g. he/she is putting the ball _________) followed by a prepositional phrase. (E.g. on the table, under the chair, in the bag, etc.)

10mins: Pre-teach: 'Time' The 24-hour clock. Introduce time vocabulary terms: a.m., p.m., o'clock, past, to/till, a quarter past, half past, a quarter till, before, after, during.

10mins - Activity: Time showdown: Split the class into two teams. The first member of each team will be given a time (Ex: a quarter past three in the afternoon). The students must write the correct time. Each correct answer earns one point.

15mins: Worksheet: page 21 - time

05mins: Warm Down: Goodbye, see you next time + points
