Review that we use 'am' for the pronoun 'I', and 'are' for the pronouns 'you, we, you (plural) and they', and 'is' for the pronouns 'he, she and it'. Then teach that when using the past tense, 'am' and 'is' become 'was' and 'are' becomes 'were'. Have the students complete the sentences, choosing whether to use 'was' or 'were' in each case. Have them read the sentences out loud.
