Review that the present continuous is used for actions happening now and is formed by adding 'ing' to the base verb. Show the students that there are some spelling rules to be aware of (when to double the consonant, or when to drop the 'e' etc). Help them to form the present continuous for the verbs on the list. Remind them that the verb 'to be' changes according to the subject pronoun. As they're colouring the pictures, ask them 'What is he/she doing?' and have them reply with the complete sentence.
10mins: Introduction - 'Whats your name, how old are you, where are you from? What's one adjective that describes you? Have you got any brothers or sisters?'
10mins: Review: Adjectives - brainstorm a list of adjectives together. Think of examples for each one.
10mins: Pre-teach: Present continuous - 'to be' + verbING. Brainstorm and write some examples on the whiteboard.
10mins: Game: Play 'what are they doing'. Gather the students in a circle. Begin miming an action (brushing your teeth, playing guitar, etc.) Look at the student next to you and say 'You are (verbING)'. Be sure to say an action that is different than the one you are miming. The student must begin to mime the action you say, and say a new action to the next student, using the present continuous. Once the students get the hang of the activity, begin eliminating anyone who makes a mistake.
