Teach the meaning of 'there is' and 'there are' and explain that 'is' is used for singular objects and 'are' is used for plural objects. Practice these using objects in the room (e.g. there is one pencil on the desk, there are 2 windows...etc). Show them that to convert into the past, we simply change 'is' to 'was' and 'are' to 'were'. Explain the meaning of the listed quantifiers and have the students complete the sentences. Help them to form their own sentences following the structure of the other examples.
