Teacher Guide

Have the students practice telling the time using the vocabulary already introduced 'O'Clock', 'a quarter past', 'half past'. Remind them that the small hand of the clock is used for the hours and the big hand is used for the minutes. They need to draw the hands in the correct position for each clock.

Lesson Plan

:

16 - Year 5 Lesson plan

10mins: Introduction - Beginner questions 'What's your name, how old are you, where are you from, have you got any brothers or sisters? What's your favourite day of the week? What do you usually do on this day? What's one thing you like? One think you don't like?

10mins: Review: Prepositions of placement and movement - in, on, under, in front of, behind, between, towards, away from, off, onto, into, out of, around. Use a ball to demonstrate these prepositions, then ask each student to demonstrate a preposition.

10mins: Review: The 24-hour clock. Introduce time vocabulary terms: a.m., p.m., o'clock, past, to/till, a quarter past, half past, a quarter to, before, after, during.

10mins: Activity: Time showdown: Split the class into two teams. The first member of each team will be given a time (Ex: a quarter past three in the afternoon). The students must write the correct time. Each correct answer earns one point.

15mins: Worksheet: page 17 'what time is it?'

05mins: Warm Down: Goodbye + points. Pack up supplies, help students prepare to leave and straighten out the classroom.
