More practice at forming sentences! Here the students need to use the superlative form of the adjective provided to complete each sentence. They need to write the complete sentence out each time. Help them to remember the spelling rules and that each superlative needs the article 'the' before it.
10mins: Introduction - Beginner questions 'What's your name, how old are you, where are you from, have you got any brothers or sisters? What's your favourite day of the week? What do you usually do on this day? What's one thing you like? One thing you don't like?
05mins: Review: Superlatives - The superlative is formed by adding 'est' to the end of an adjective. It indicated that something has the 'most' of a group of three or more. Some adjectives change form completely, such as 'good' and 'bad'. Adjectives that have a vowel before the last letter will double the last letter before adding 'est'. (E.g. hottest). Add 'most' in front of Long adjectives. A 'long adjective' is an adjective with three or more syllables. Write some examples on the board.
15mins: Activity: Comparing celebrities - Students work in pairs to write a list of adjectives for each photograph. Then they must choose three photos to compare and write 5 sentences using comparatives and superlatives.
15mins: Worksheet: page 26 superlatives - finish for homework.
10mins: Superlatives shoot out - stand in the middle of circle and say an adjective while pointing at a student. They duck down, the two students on either side must race to 'shoot' by saying the superlative of the adjective. The person who responds correctly first stays, and the other student is eliminated.
